Women’s Heart Wise Exercise
programs are happening all across the GTA.

Various clubs around Toronto offer unique services for women tailored to cardiac rehabilitation, education and prevention. The expanding groups of designated sites are listed on the Cardiac Health Foundation website under Heart Wise Exercise:

- women only classes are coordinated by Suzanne Poirier and Stephanie Grimbly.

Program Objectives:

  • Educate clients about cardiovascular disease, related risk factors and the role of exercise in its management.
  • Educate clients about how to exercise and how to self-monitor for appropriate intensity.
  • Create a community environment for participants to feel comfortable.
  • Create opportunities for heart healthy activities.

Class Components:

  • Education tailored to the specific and unique needs of women.
  • Active exercise participation.
  • Members & non-members welcome
  • Drop-in option available


  • Twice per week.
  • Eight weeks in duration.


  • Bayview Avenue:
    • Beginning week of March 4th, 2013
    • Tuesdays & Thursdays 1:30-2:30pm
  • Pickering:
    • Beginning week of March 4th, 2013
    • Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-7:00 pm OR Mondays & Wednesdays 12:30-1:30pm
  • Burlington:
    • Beginning week of March 4th, 2013
    • Wednesdays & Fridays 6:00pm - 7:00pm OR Mondays & Wednesdays 12:30pm-1:30pm

Heart Wise Exercise Designated Classes:

  • Cardio and Strength Circuit for Cardiac Patients - offered 5x/week
  • Cardio and Strength Circuit for Cancer Patients - offered 9x/week
  • Vital Moves for 50+ – offered twice per week
  • Bone Building Team – offered twice per week

Program includes:

  • (Cardio and Strength Circuit sessions only)
    • Functional movement screen and a comprehensive fitness assessment.
    • Exercise prescribed at an appropriate intensity.
    • Exercise circuit.
    • Education component on various health related topics.
  • (Vital Moves for 50+)
    • Aerobic routine with music.
    • Strength routine with a focus on core and pelvic floor exercises.
  • (Bone Building Team)
    • Aerobic routine with music and bone strengthening moves.
    • Strength routine with a focus on bone strength.

Bonus attractions:

  • Periodic guest educators – once a month.
  • Lifestyle Logs (exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management).
